About the museum
Unterregenbach continues to puzzle medieval archaeologists to this day: several predecessor buildings have been documented around the church of St. Veit, three churches in total, built by unknown builders. In the cellar of the parsonage built in 1880, a Carolingian crypt survived; around the year 1000 it belonged to a large basilica, and its vault rests on columns with capitals in the Corinthian style.
Finds from the long-running excavations and the documentation of the digs have been on permanent display since 1980 in the former schoolhouse. The tour takes in the excavation museum, the uncovered crypt and today's church, both below and above ground, and it is independent of the weather.
