About the museum
The Upper Gate Tower in Spalt was built in 1422 under Prince-Bishop Johann II von Heideck. It has been habitable since 1763, has belonged to the town since 1821, and was renovated in 1974.
Today the town uses the building as the Handwerkerstuben (crafts rooms). Workshops are set up in which visitors can follow how shoemakers, joiners, hairdressers, and pewterers once worked.
