About the museum
The museum is located in the Old Town Hall of Oberkirch, which also houses the Städtische Galerie (municipal gallery). It is dedicated to the Baroque writer Hans Jacob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen, who lived in Oberkirch with his family for almost twenty years and wrote large parts of his novel "Simplicissimus" here.
A new multimedia and interactive permanent exhibition introduces the author, his era and his influence on literature, with animations, puzzles, listening stations and video clips. Upstairs, the museum shows the history of the town, crafts, agriculture, industry and customs of the Renchtal valley; models illustrate what Oberkirch and the Schauenburg looked like in earlier times.
