About the museum

Vollmer’s Mühle in Grimmerswald near Seebach is the oldest surviving custom grinding mill in the Acher valley. According to research into the family history of today’s owners, it was built around 1800 or earlier by Nicolaus Schnurr. As a custom mill, it ground grain for the surrounding farms. The mill channel directs water from the Grimmerswald brook onto the overshot water wheel. In 1938 the wheel was replaced by a turbine, which was removed during World War II. After the war, a tractor drove the mill via belts.

From 1976 to 1978 the Heimat- und Verkehrsverein Seebach renovated the mill with volunteer labor. The water wheel has turned again since 1978, and the mill has been open to the public since 1979. In the building, a small rural museum shows the daily life and crafts of earlier times. A modern hydroelectric plant also generates electricity.

The program includes Mill Day on Whit Monday, the big mill festival on the second Sunday in August, and a customs program with butter churning, spinning and Kienspanziehen.
