About the museum
The former Zillenbauernhof in Blindheim was saved from decay through a joint effort and put to new use. The listed farmhouse with its barn dates from the 17th century and belonged to the Cistercian monastery of Kaisheim until 1803. A new building matching the old one now serves the municipality as its town hall, while the museum in the historic part presents living and working on the land.
The tour leads through a single-story house with a wide hallway paved with Solnhofen stone slabs. The central room is the parlor, with a tiled stove and a bench running around it, which in winter was the only room that could be heated. In the vaulted kitchen are a pump well and a tiled hearth; until 1919 there was an open fireplace here. The bedrooms served as sleeping quarters for farmers, children, and servants.
On the upper floor, in the cross-wing (Zwerchhaus), a more elaborately decorated retirement room (Austragsstube) from around 1780 has been preserved intact. In the former grain loft, prehistoric finds from the Blindheim fields and numerous relics of the Battle of Blindheim of August 13, 1704, are on display.
