About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Hessenstube is located in Altenritte, a district of Baunatal, in the residence above the old forge at Ritterstraße 1. It shows the living and working world of people in the farming and craft villages of the Baunatal area from the second half of the 19th century to the 1930s, mainly through everyday objects of small farming and rural laboring families.
On the upper floor, a bedroom, a kitchen and a hall convey the housing conditions of the time. In the basement, the forge is set up with old machines and tools as an example of rural crafts; a shoemaker's workshop as well as a joiner's and turner's workshop complete the picture. A weaving room with a hand loom and equipment for flax processing also belongs to the museum.
