About the museum
The Heimatstube Metze is part of the archive of the Metze history and local heritage society, founded in 1992 as part of the celebrations for the village's 1,175th anniversary. Metze has been documented in records since 817 and has been a district of Niedenstein since 1970.
The rooms are on the upper floor of the community hall on Besser Straße in the north of the village. The exhibition has two main focuses: originals of the Lower Hessian Spitzbetzel costume, and archaeological research into the Chatti, who settled in the area. There is also evidence of the village's development, such as the former pottery trade.
The society collects and researches material from the Stone Age to more recent local history and presents it to visitors, school classes and kindergarten groups.
