About the museum
The Wichdorfer Heimatmuseum was opened in June 2007 by the Geschichts- und Heimatverein Wichdorf, a history and local heritage association founded in 1993. It is located on the upper floor of the Bürgerhaus (community hall) on Raiffeisenstraße and follows the idea of showing how earlier generations lived and worked in the village.
On about 150 square meters, the first part is a furnished village apartment with kitchen, living, dining, bedroom and children's room. The second part is devoted to working life: a complete cobbler's workshop, along with items from the trades of baker, carpenter and butcher and from household and farm life. There are also collector's cups, old maps, documents and photos, as well as individual pieces of village history, such as a wooden pipe from the first water line and the former church spire.
Wichdorf has a village history of more than a thousand years and has belonged to the town of Niedenstein since the municipal reform of 1970.
