Heimatmuseum Aschen
Museum village of the local history association in Diepholz-Aschen with a village school, forge, bakehouse, and workshops on rural life of earlier times.
About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Aschen is run by the Heimatverein Aschen von 1960 and documents farming and craft everyday life in the Diepholzer Land. On a site of around 8,000 square meters in the Aschen district of Diepholz, a small museum village has gradually grown from preserved, relocated, and reconstructed buildings.
The ensemble includes, among other things, a granary from 1741, a sheep barn from 1791, a village forge from the 18th century, a carpentry workshop from 1893, a Heuerling house (tenant farmer's cottage), a bakehouse with a stone oven, a beehouse, a draw well, and a horse-gin house, as well as sheds for wagons and machines. Agricultural tools, furniture, tools, and household goods are shown; some workshops are in working order.
Since 1997 a vintage car meeting has taken place on the grounds every year. In 2020 construction began on a two-story half-timbered hall for further exhibits, funded among other things through village development. The old village school was renovated, reopened in November 2025, and has shown a newly designed exhibition since the start of the 2026 season. Festivals such as baking day, craft market, and harvest festival enliven the museum grounds throughout the year.
