About the museum

The technology museum in Heede, a district of Diepholz, was founded in 2014 and is run by the Familie Dieter und Margret Möller-Stiftung (foundation). It grew out of the collection of the museum's initiator, Dieter Möller, who gathered irons and related appliances over several decades.

The focus is on around 2,500 objects on the history of ironing: besides irons heated with coal, alcohol, gasoline or electricity, visitors can see foot irons, collar irons, mangles and pleating machines. A second exhibition building shows the Kaufmann family's collection of radios, tube televisions, radio transmitters and high-frequency measuring instruments, including early answering machines and sound recording devices.

The museum is complemented by a section on household technology with telephones, stoves, heating systems, sanitary fixtures and plumbers' tools. Volunteers restore and archive the holdings, run the museum café and host a monthly repair meetup. There are also talks and events on historic technology, and the museum's own film team presents exhibits in short videos on a YouTube channel.
