About the museum
The local history museum of Vallendar is located on the upper floor of the town hall on Rathausplatz, a half-timbered building from the 17th century with a gable construction that is almost unique in the region. It tells the story of the town on the Rhine, first mentioned in 1051 in a deed of gift by Emperor Henry III.
Since the town has few objects of its own, the museum relies on changing theme exhibitions. Volunteer local historians develop them, several per year, with reference to Vallendar and its people. The permanent display shows, among other things, documents, graphics, oil paintings and photographs, including views from the 1950s that document the town's transformation, as well as a mammoth tooth discovered during excavations in Vallendar.
