The Haus der Fotografie presents award winners Susanne Neiss and Laura De Luca with painterly reworked photographs and video installations.
Festung Ehrenbreitstein rises on a 118-meter-high rocky spur opposite the mouth of the Moselle. Around the year 1000 a castle was built here, which the Archbishops of Trier expanded into a fortress from around 1500. The present complex was built by Prussia in the 19th century; it is one of the largest surviving fortresses in Europe and lies between the World Heritage Sites of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley and the Limes.
The Landesmuseum Koblenz was founded in 1956 and housed in the fortress buildings. Initially the focus was on prehistory and early history as well as folk culture and viticulture technology; from 1975, under Ulrich Löber, the museum established itself as a museum of technical cultural monuments. The Haus der Archäologie was added in 2003. For the 2011 Federal Garden Show (Bundesgartenschau), the fortress was extensively renovated and connected to the Rhine riverbank by a cable car.
Today the museum, together with the fortress operations, forms the Kulturzentrum Festung Ehrenbreitstein of the Generaldirektion Kulturelles Erbe Rheinland-Pfalz. Its four exhibition buildings cover archaeology along the Middle Rhine and Moselle, contemporary photography, wine culture, and – since August 2026, in the permanent exhibition "Schaffensland" – 200 years of work and everyday life in the state. Fourteen stations across the grounds explain the history of the fortress. One ticket covers the fortress and all exhibitions.
