About the museum
The beginnings of the local history museum date back to 1921. Today it is housed on the upper floor of the Alte Post in the center of Daaden, a building dating from 1671.
The collection spans from the Celtic period to the late Middle Ages and focuses in particular on iron ore mining, which shaped the Daaden region for centuries. Miners' uniforms, rock samples, carbide and oil lamps, as well as hammers and picks recall how closely the region was tied to mining until the Grube Füsseberg closed in 1965. A map shows the mines of the area; photographs document pits, smelting works and quarries.
Further topics are Haubergwirtschaft, a sustainable mixed use of grain cultivation, cattle grazing and timber production, as well as legal and church history. Photographs, tools and household items illustrate earlier rural life, crafts and school.
