About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Ditfurt is located on the former estate farm (Amtshof) of Stift Quedlinburg. Ditfurt was given to the abbey by Otto II in 974 and remained its supply estate until the abbey was dissolved in 1803. In 1894 an ox stable for around 48 animals was built on the grounds, which is today the museum's main building.
The Kulturbund (cultural association) opened a first local history room in 1957. In 1992 the Heimatverein Ditfurt (local history association) was founded; from 1996 it rented the estate farm and in 1998 moved into the reconstructed ox stable with agricultural equipment and the local history room. Since 2001 a hostel has also belonged to it.
Today the museum shows more than 10,000 exhibits across more than 1,000 square meters: agricultural equipment and allied trades, local history rooms, an archaeological exhibition and, in the former horse stable, old electrical, radio and typewriter technology. A rebuilt dovecote and the former sheep barn, used as equipment storage, complete the farmyard.
