About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Dorfprozelten is located in the former station building of 1906, which the municipality made available to the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein (local history association). The association was founded in November 1987 and set up changing exhibitions on the history of the village and the life of earlier generations. In 2007 an annex was added to the station, serving as a store for historical materials.
In the basement a fully equipped stonemason's workshop is on permanent display. It shows, among other things, the Herrgott vom Dreikreuz, a torso from 1629, as well as banners of the stonemasons' mutual aid association. Stonemasonry shaped the village until the work in the stonemasons' huts was finally discontinued in 1958.
On the Bahnplatz, a Bergbremsbahn recovered from the local quarries in 2004 and faithfully rebuilt recalls the transport of stone. There are also a 19th-century child's gravestone and numerous boundary stones. The association also looks after the Schiffermuseum (boatmen's museum) and the Alte Schmiede (old forge) in the village.
