About the museum
The museum occupies the former town hall of Mönchberg from 1607, a half-timbered building with a sandstone base, a half-hipped roof and a small slate-clad turret. Across about 200 square meters, seven rooms are spread over the second floor, the attic and the cellar.
The central theme is "Mensch und Obrigkeit in einer fränkischen Landgemeinde", telling of everyday life in a village of the Electorate of Mainz. The rooms cover, among other things, Mönchberg as a market town and Centene (court district), market and measures, the legend of the Liesbethchen and the witch persecutions, the interplay of spiritual and secular power in the Electorate of Mainz, and the village's transfer to Bavaria. In the attic, the pottery craft, which was important for the village, and the pilgrimage take center stage. A small prison in the cellar can be viewed through a glass pane from the Hauptstraße.
