About the museum
Flörsheim's local history museum has been housed in the Frankfurter Hof on Hauptstraße since 1980. It is run by the Heimatverein Flörsheim 1924, whose roots lie in a local branch of the Verein für nassauische Altertumskunde (Nassau Antiquities Society), set up in 1924 under mayor Jakob Lauck. Since then the association has collected and researched the history of the town on the Main and continues this work today, including contributions on Jewish life in Flörsheim.
Two main areas define the collection. The Schütz Gallery shows 18th-century paintings, mostly by the Schütz family of painters from Flörsheim. The Fayence Cabinet presents Flörsheim faience from the 18th and early 19th centuries, that is, painted pottery from the region. The museum also holds numerous other objects and pictorial documents on local history.
In 2013 the house opened an exhibition on the Schütz family of painters, for which a film was also made. The building is currently closed for renovation work, but the two core collections can be viewed on a guided tour after registering with the association.
