About the museum
The Heimathaus is a restored half-timbered house in the center of Friesack, on the market square, and belongs to the listed Marktensemble (market square ensemble). The town owns it. The ground floor has a library, the first floor the exhibition cared for by the Heimatverein Friesack e. V., and the second floor a furnished room from GDR times. The local history museum has existed since August 1996.
On display are old crafts, Stone Age finds and many objects from the daily life of the small burgher-farmer town. The exhibits relate mainly to the history of Friesack and its townspeople. In the courtyard there is also an extensive display of agricultural equipment. Children may try out and handle many things.
