Forstmuseum Waldpavillon Augsburg

Small forestry museum of the City of Augsburg at the Siebentischwald: forest, animals and drinking water to touch, hear and discover.

Opening hoursAdmission €2

About the museum

The Waldpavillon was opened in 2003 by the Augsburg municipal forestry administration at the edge of the Siebentischwald. On around 200 square metres, it explains what functions the Augsburg city forest fulfils, as a recreational area, habitat and filter for the city’s drinking water, and why foresters look after it. The city’s other forest areas throughout Bavaria are also covered.

The exhibition engages all the senses: pelts of native animals and tree bark can be touched, Augsburg drinking water can be tasted, in the ceiling cinema the owl Augusta tells the story of the city forest, and a walk-on aerial photograph shows the forest area from above. A centrepiece is the collection of the former senior forestry officer Franz Sauter, with insects and animal specimens in naturalistic dioramas.

Since its founding, the pavilion has also been a base for forest education. In 2011 it received the Georg Dätzel Medal, and since 2020 it has held the quality seal “Umweltbildung Bayern”. A visit combines well with a walk through the adjoining Siebentischwald, whose nature reserve celebrates its hundredth anniversary in 2026.
