About the museum
The Görwihl local history museum has existed since autumn 1986 and sees itself as a museum to touch and try out. Across four floors it tells the history and everyday life of the Hotzenwald.
Of particular note is the saltpetre works, said to be unique in Baden-Württemberg, which shows how saltpetre was once produced. On the middle floor the focus is on home weaving, with a 4.20-metre-wide ribbon-weaving loom, the last working one of its kind on the High Rhine. There is also a faithfully furnished classroom and an exhibition on Hotzenwald costume from 1740 to 1910.
