About the museum

The Heimatmuseum Gundheim is housed in the former Pfalzbau, the old main building of the Greiffenklau farmstead, built in 1744. From 1853 to 1974 the building served as a school; today it houses the town hall and training and meeting rooms of the volunteer fire brigade. The local history association opened its museum here on August 19, 1984, initially with one room on household and interior furnishings.

Further sections were gradually added: in 1992 a craft museum with a smithy, bakery, paver, carpentry, cooperage, shoemaker and mason; in 1999 a fully furnished old classroom, made possible through support from the Heimatverein Pfeddersheim; and in 2014, for the association's 50th anniversary, the Bible room. Another room is under construction.

The focus is on life around 1900: the good parlor, bedroom and kitchen with household items, tools of viticulture and of craftsmen, and school benches, blackboards and teaching material. The Bible room shows Bibles from 1620 to 2014 along with religious symbols. In addition, over 70 books on local history, some of them handwritten, are available for viewing.
