About the museum
The local history museum of the municipality of Haimhausen opened in 1986. It is run by the municipality and the Arbeitskreis Ortsgeschichte (local history working group), and volunteers look after the exhibition. Since moving to new premises, it has been in the basement of the building on Pfarrstraße.
The collection shows tools, household items, furniture and textiles used in rural everyday life in the 19th and 20th centuries. There are also sections on school, church and village history, and on the noble families of the village, such as the Counts of Haimhausen and the Haniel von Haimhausen family.
Another focus is the Haimhausen artists' colony, which began in 1895 with the arrival of the painter Bernhard Buttersack. The museum holds numerous paintings, drawings and watercolors by artists who worked in Haimhausen.
