About the museum
The Sylt Museum in Keitum, formerly known as the Sylter Heimatmuseum, is dedicated to the history of the island and its people. The Sölring Museen are run by an association that also operates the Altfriesisches Haus in Keitum.
The exhibition combines folklore and art: it tells everyday stories of the islanders and adventures of seafarers, and shows the language of the Sylt people and the art that has been created on the island over centuries. Special exhibitions on art history and lectures complement the offering.
The museum was awarded a quality seal for museums in Schleswig-Holstein in 2008 and 2024. Part of the collection can be searched online, and a virtual 3D tour shows the rooms outside opening hours as well.
