About the museum
Since 1979, a local history museum was housed in Lamspringe Monastery, the former Benedictine convent in the Hildesheim district. It told the history of the monastery and the Flecken (market township) of Lamspringe and showed how people there had worked and lived.
Themes included crafts and trades of the 19th century, with objects from a Lamspringe weaving school and a fully furnished shoemaker's workshop. The apothecary room displayed bottles, mortars and pestles in two display cases, along with a life-size skeleton model. The museum also covered former local businesses, such as a porcelain factory, two dairies and a hatmaker.
The monastery building now also houses the municipal administration. Because of a planned conversion of the building, the local history museum is closed until further notice.
