Kunstgebäude Schlosshof Bodenburg
Exhibition venue for contemporary art in the converted "Bullenstall" (bull barn) in the Schlosshof of Bodenburg near Bad Salzdetfurth.
About the museum
The Kunstverein Bad Salzdetfurth was founded in January 1991 – initiated by the sculptor Hans-Oiseau Kalkmann, joined by 27 other citizens. The association's aim was to bring contemporary art and cultural events to the south of the Hildesheim district and make them accessible to a broad public.
In November 1992 the association leased from the castle owner Burghard von Cramm, for 50 years, an elongated farm building in the courtyard of the Bodenburg moated castle. The listed building, known in the village as the "Bullenstall" because of its last use in cattle breeding, essentially dates back to around 1800 in its present form and stands out for its curved, slate-covered roof. With donations, public funds and a great deal of volunteer work, two exhibition levels with a combined area of around 500 square meters were created; in 1999 the conversion was honored with a monument preservation award from the Niedersächsische Sparkassenstiftung.
The venue became known through exhibition series such as six international Mail Art Biennials (1998–2008), the collection shows "Kunst sammeln" and a cycle of international group exhibitions on artistic techniques. In 2009 the Stiftung Kunstgebäude Schlosshof Bodenburg was established, to which the building was transferred in 2012; it now continues the exhibition and events program. In addition to the exhibitions, the Bullenstall regularly hosts concerts from jazz and blues to chamber music.
