Heimatmuseum Marienfeld
Volunteer-run local history museum at Hof Schürmann in Marienfeld with farming, crafts, a bakehouse, a forge, and a museum café.
About the museum
The Verein Heimatmuseum Marienfeld was founded in March 1999 with 32 members, and the museum opened in September of the same year. Around 2,500 guests came to the opening; the exhibits come mostly as donations and loans from the people of Marienfeld.
The museum is housed in the farm buildings of the no longer farmed Hof Schürmann on the Lutterstrang, right on the R1 cycle route. Six rooms are used, former stables as well as a manure barn and a grain barn; a bakehouse and a forge were newly built. The collection has grown from initially about 180 to more than 2,500 objects.
One area is devoted to farming with large implements and machines, another to crafts with workshops for the weaver, blacksmith, and wooden-shoe maker as well as an old farmhouse kitchen. Since 2011, the family has run a museum café in the former chicken coop.
