About the museum
The museum is housed in the tithe barn on the market square, a former grain store that probably dates from the late 16th century. In the last year of the Thirty Years' War, 1648, the building burned down when Swedish cavalry withdrew, like many other houses in the town. It was rebuilt in 1726 and served as a grain store until 1851.
The town then used the building as its town hall until 1991. After the administration moved out, the local history museum opened there in 1993. Across about 310 square meters of exhibition space, it shows how people in the small Ackerbürgerstadt once lived, lived in their homes and worked.
