About the museum
According to the inscription on the door lintel, the core building of the farm dates from 1686. It was inhabited until 1833, and from 1880 stables and outbuildings were gradually added, creating a four-sided farmstead that was used for farming until 1957. After the death of the last owner in 1983, the farm passed to a community of heirs.
At the beginning of 1984 the Geschichts- und Heimatverein Merzenich, together with the municipality and the Landschaftsverband, campaigned to have the complex placed under heritage protection, which happened in February 1984. In 1986 the municipality acquired the farm; the association began clearing and restoration work and developed the complex into a museum. On 5 June 1988 the Heimatmuseum was opened to the public.
On view are furnished living rooms with a kitchen and coal stove, a bedroom, a bakehouse and smokehouse, as well as a smithy and a cobbler's workshop. A mill stands in the barn, and there is also a farm garden and an apiary. An Advent market is held in the farmyard every year.
