About the museum

The Old Town Hall with its bake house on Kirchstraße was built in 1645 and is the oldest building in Mörsdorf. The two-bay half-timbered house bears the figure of the "Wilder Mann" (wild man) three times in its gable and has a broad weather roof.

In September 1985 the local heritage association, under its chairman Werner Platten, decided to ask the local municipality to clear the building and fit it out as a local history museum. The bake house was renovated first, so that in summer 1989, after almost 30 years, the Backesfest (bread-baking festival) with stone-oven bread and Backeskuchen could be celebrated again; it has been held every two years since. The museum itself was prepared in time for the big Heimatfest in 1997 and opened on July 5, 1997.

The collection gathers everyday objects, pieces from the church sphere and tools of the crafts formerly practiced in the village. The exhibition shows agricultural, craft and household tools, as well as peasant work implements from two centuries.
