About the museum
The museum is housed in the Old Parsonage of Dommershausen, built in 1837. After renovation by the local municipality, the building was handed over on September 12, 1992, to the Familienstiftung Pies-Archiv, Forschungszentrum Vorderhunsrück e.V., which set it up as a museum, library and archive. The association had been founded in 1986 by Dr. Eike Pies.
The focus is on the local and cultural history of Dommershausen, farmhouse house marks, family coats of arms and family books, as well as the history of the judge and physician family Pies, from which the famous Hunsrück bone-setters came. The word “piesacken” (to pester, nag) is also traced back to them.
Since the association was dissolved in March 2019, the collections and assets have belonged to the local municipality of Dommershausen, which continues to run the house as a museum, archive and library on regional personal and local history. The reference library, with many family books from the Hunsrück, Eifel and Saar region as well as village chronicles, supports genealogical research.
