About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Nieder-Roden is in the old village center at Kirchplatz, in the former teacher's house on the corner of Schulstraße and Turmstraße. The Arbeitskreis für Heimatkunde Nieder-Roden (local history working group) has managed the southern half of the house since 1985; in 2011, after a Spanish association was dissolved, the northern half was added. Since then, visitors enter the museum mainly from Schulstraße.
On the ground floor are the Museumsstubb (museum parlor) with café, a main exhibition room for changing exhibitions, and a small cinema with historical film material and eyewitness interviews. On the upper floor, the permanent exhibition shows how people in Nieder-Roden lived from about 1900 to 1960: with an old kitchen, the "Gudd Stubb" (best parlor), a classroom, a loom, and small rooms on club life and religious life.
In the basement, a storeroom and a laundry room are recreated; in a separate room, ground finds from the surroundings of Nieder-Roden are displayed.
