About the museum

The Dietzenbach fire brigade museum began in the 1970s with uniforms, leather helmets and smaller pieces of equipment from the early days of the local volunteer fire brigade. These holdings were later merged with the private collection of a Dietzenbach firefighter and still form the core of the exhibition. The museum is run and looked after by the Feuerwehrvereinigung Dietzenbach.

The collection is housed in the fire brigade's former vehicle hall in Dietzenbach's old town. The large pieces are displayed there: historic fire engines, portable pumps, a retired motorised turntable ladder and the town's first motorised fire engine, an Opel Blitz from 1950.

Along the walls, a continuous row of display cases shows in chronological order how firefighting technology and equipment have developed; documents on the history of firefighting can also be seen. A second exhibition section is devoted to fire brigades from other countries, above all the French, Belgian and Canadian partner brigades. An extensive collection of fire engine models rounds off the tour. During the season the museum is open on Sunday mornings and by arrangement.
