About the museum
The Heimatmuseum is located in the shepherd’s house in the Oberdorf of Reiskirchen, directly in front of the church. The half-timbered house is considered the oldest house in the village and dates from before 1700. Originally it was a semi-detached house that the municipality rented out to its shepherds.
From 1993, members of the Heimatgeschichtliche Vereinigung Reiskirchen renovated the building through volunteer work and set up the museum there.
The rooms show rural living around 1910 with period furnishings. This is complemented by an archive with several thousand catalogued photographs on the history of the region, including images from before 1900.
