The Lich local history museum is housed in the Textorhaus on Kirchenplatz, one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in town, between the Marienstiftskirche, the town hall and the market square. Above a vaulted cellar from the 15th century, the steward (Rentmeister) of the Counts of Solms, Jakob Textor, built the richly decorated upper floors in 1632; his coat of arms and that of his wife are preserved on the house.
A small municipal museum from the 1930s was dissolved at the outbreak of war in 1939. The history teacher Hans Schnorr discovered the stored remains in the town hall attic and restored them. In 1963 he received a room in the Textorhaus for a display collection; after the basic renovation of 1982 to 1984, the house has been a permanent museum of the Heimatkundliche Sammlung (local history collection) since 1984. In 1992, the neighboring house at Kirchenplatz 6 was added for special exhibitions and the toy collection.
The collection is spread over several floors: half-timbering and a wooden model of the Findt’sche Haus, demolished in 1957, in the hall; crafts in the vaulted cellar; domestic culture of the 19th and early 20th centuries on the second floor; and militaria, pharmacy and hairdresser fittings, laundry and agricultural equipment on the third floor. The building and the collection belong to the town of Lich; they are looked after voluntarily by the Heimatkundlicher Arbeitskreis Lich e. V. (local history working group).
