About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Seckbach opened on 24 January 2004 and is run by the Kultur- und Geschichtsverein 1954 Frankfurt-Seckbach, which has around 175 members and is supported by the Institut für Stadtgeschichte.
It is housed in the small half-timbered house where the school caretaker of the Zentgrafenschule once lived. In the immediate neighbourhood stand the Marienkirche of 1710 and the old Protestant schoolhouse of 1709.
The exhibition leads chronologically through about a thousand years of local history, from the first documentary mention in 880, through farming life and viticulture, to the incorporation into Frankfurt around 1900. Thematic focuses include the period from 1880 to 1918 and the transformation of the village into a city district.
