About the museum
The local history museum lies away from the village, in the middle of a forest about four kilometers from Sünching. It was set up by local heritage officer Willibald Zölch, who looked after it for many years together with his wife Margot. On April 15, 2025, he retired and handed the house over to the municipality, which owns it.
The exhibition rooms are housed in several so-called bunkers. Four fully furnished apartments from around 1880, 1900, 1930 and 1960 show how living culture changed. Further rooms are devoted to the laundry, the milk and pantry room, textile production, the farm inn with the salvaged furnishings of the oldest village tavern, local crafts, a pharmacy, a dental practice, the village barber-surgeon of 2014, a village school of 2008, the fire brigade, a traveling cinema, a general store and the former district hospital. At several stations, visitors can spin, weave or try out crafts themselves.
All income goes to the San Joe Puram Kinderhilfe Sünching e. V. friends' association, which supports a children's village in India. At the museum festivals, association members provide the catering.
