About the museum
The Erdholländer (a type of Dutch-style windmill) in Werdum was built in 1748 by the lord of Burg Edenserloog on a raised mound. In 2002 the mill was fully restored and given new sails and a new copper-clad cap.
Today it serves as a small museum: on the ground floor there are old household, barn and farm implements, along with information on the miller's trade. During the school holidays in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia between April and October, guided tours are held at the mill, showing how grain becomes flour and ending with the “Werdumer Müller-Diplom” (Werdum Miller's Diploma).
The mill is part of the Museumswiese Werdum, which also has a historic forge where a blacksmith demonstrates his craft, and a Backhuus with a wood-fired oven.
