About the museum
The Wiggensbach local history museum goes back to a local history collection founded in 1931 by the then mayor. From 1987 the existing holdings were sorted and inventoried. After the parish church foundation promised valuable sculptures on loan, planning for a new exhibition began in 1990.
The museum moved into the gutted attic of the former school, which now serves as the information center (WIZ), and opened on April 14, 1994. All objects come from Wiggensbach and the northern Oberallgäu.
The exhibition gives an overview of geology, settlement and local history, economy and folklore. Sections are devoted to the parish church, the school, agriculture, crafts, the farmhouse and popular piety. The highlight is the southeast corner of an original farmhouse with a furnished parlor; there are also poster-sized photos of old Wiggensbach, wax works, reverse-glass paintings and sculptures from the Gothic and Baroque periods.
