About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Wißmar in the Wißmar district of Wettenberg is run by the Heimatvereinigung Wißmar e. V. (local history association). It uses rooms above the village bakehouse on Schulstraße. In the large hall on the upper floor, old costumes, crockery and household appliances show everyday life in bygone times, and a picture gallery contrasts the village in the past with the present.
The collection focuses on farming and crafts. In the attic a kitchen and a bedroom are furnished with furniture, chests, stoves and linens. In the adjoining school barn are large farm machines, looms, spinning wheels, a bookbindery and a fully equipped shoemaker's workshop. There are also archaeological finds and medieval pottery, known as Wißmarer Ware.
