About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Krofdorf-Gleiberg on Inselstraße, next to the historic bakehouse, is run by the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Krofdorf-Gleiberg. It shows over 2,000 objects that illustrate how earlier generations lived and worked in the Gleiberger Land.
The permanent exhibition covers areas such as farm life and work, a summer kitchen, agricultural tools, forestry, traditional costumes, brewing and the inn trade, the fire brigade, a schoolroom, a shoemaker's workshop and other crafts. This is supplemented by themes such as spinning and weaving, cigar manufacture with a home-working station, and the regional history of clubs and churches, including the Freireligiöse Gemeinde (Free Religious Community). The museum also commemorates forced labor, persecution and resistance under National Socialism.
A separate heritage room documents the history and culture of the expellees, mostly from the Egerland, and their arrival and integration. On opening days there are rotating special exhibitions and events on local and cultural history, customs and readings. During the holiday programs, children bake in the museum's bakehouse as in their great-grandmothers' time.
