Heimatmuseum Zempin
Local history museum "Uns olle Schaul" in the old village school of Zempin on Usedom with a fishing exhibition, boat models and a grocer's shop from 1928.
About the museum
The local history museum is located in the former village school of the seaside resort of Zempin on Usedom, known in the village as "Uns olle Schaul" (Our Old School). The building was erected in 1928 as the third school building on this site; the first lessons were held in August 1928, and the last school day was in July 2000.
In December 2000, the Heimatverein Zempin e. V. (local history association) opened its museum in the former classrooms. It documents Zempin's development from a fishing and farming village on the Achterwasser to a Baltic seaside resort. One classroom now serves as a lecture room, and on the upper floor the local clubs have a meeting room.
The focus is fishing: the Zempin fisherman Konrad Tiefert (1919–2009) only began building models of cutters and sailing boats at the age of 80, and made over 30 working boats from everyday materials such as fruit crates and tin cans. In the former teacher's apartment, Karl Schichlein's grocery store, with furnishings from 1928, has been rebuilt; it served as the village's grocery shop until 1996. The house also commemorates painters such as Hugo Scheele and shows changing exhibitions.
