About the museum
The Heimatmuseum on Seestraße in Börgerende has existed since 1982. The municipality of Börgerende-Rethwisch, with its districts of Börgerende, Rethwisch, and Bahrenhorst, lies between Warnemünde and Heiligendamm; its history reaches back some 700 years.
In April 2009, after the building was restored, the house reopened with a newly designed exhibition. It spans from the Stone Age to the present and uses selected objects to show how people lived and worked here.
Special attention is paid to traditional local crafts, farming, and fishing. Another theme is the neighboring Conventer Niederung nature reserve. The museum also tells of the beginnings of seaside tourism in the 19th century and its development up to today. In the museum yard stand old, still working farm implements.
