About the museum
For the village's 625th anniversary in 1979, Demnitz received a Heimatstube, which was first housed in the former manor house. On March 20, 2010, it moved into the former parsonage. Because renovation of the parsonage was planned, the collection had to be temporarily relocated; after reopening in the renovated house, it can be visited there again. Since 2004 the Heimatverein Demnitz has looked after the Heimatstube, including its archive.
The small museum gives an overview of the development of a typical Mark Brandenburg manor village and of the way of life and work of its residents in the 19th and 20th centuries. Everyday objects that have often become sought-after rarities today are on display: a milk centrifuge, butter churn, cattle and ox harnesses, a scythe, a flail, Holländer shoes, kiepen (carrying baskets), and an iron-banded chest.
Also included are a photo chronicle of the village's agricultural history, material on the volunteer fire brigade, old money, and school primers, slates, and slate pencils.
