About the museum
The Rauensche Zieten Museum is the local history museum of the village of Rauen near Fürstenwalde. It moved on April 1, 2023, into the village's former waterworks, a building from the 1930s that had been converted over three years of work beforehand: walls were removed, and new ceilings and wooden floors were installed.
The collection is based on the estates of the two village chroniclers Andreas Simon and Wolfgang Looschen, whose papers have been processed and digitized and form the museum's archive. On the upper floor, two large rooms hold the permanent exhibition, with a living and dining room furnished in the style of around 1900, a village general store and a schoolroom. A gallery displays further everyday objects from Rauen. The basement holds the archive, reading and study rooms, and a room for changing exhibitions.
The themes range from the lookout tower and ski slopes of the Rauener Berge to mining and school history, and on to the fortified church and historic houses. Film clips show events such as ski jumping, soapbox racing and village walks, and demonstrations of traditional crafts such as spinning complement the display.
