About the museum
The pianist, composer and music teacher Xaver Scharwenka (1850–1924) had a summer house built in Saarow in 1910/11 from pine wood imported from America, which he called his "Musenhütte" (muse's hut). The house, now a protected historic building, has housed Brandenburg's first musicians' museum since 2014.
The exhibition is devoted to the music of the 19th and early 20th centuries and presents the life's work of the brothers Xaver and Philipp Scharwenka (1847–1917); the Scharwenka Archive is part of the house. In addition there is an exhibition on artists associated with Bad Saarow. Pieces by Romantic composers can be listened to individually, and a special feature is a mechanical piano that plays as if by an invisible hand.
The Scharwenka Kulturforum e.V. (registered association) complements the museum with local history exhibitions, an art cabinet, a small gallery with pictures by regional artists, and concerts and other events.
