About the museum

In 1879, on the instruction of the Prussian provincial government, the municipality of Exten had a new schoolhouse built that met the then-current requirements for size, light and cleanliness. After a new building made the old one redundant, the Heimatstube moved in in 1973 on the initiative of the then mayor, Heinz Maack.

It displays collections on village history and also houses the village archive. It is run by the Verein für Heimatpflege und Kultur Exten e. V., which also looks after the nearby Eisenhammer (iron hammer mill).
