About the museum
The Heimatstube Radegast goes back to the town's 750th anniversary celebrations in 1994. Dedicated residents of Radegast collected clothing, furniture, and kitchen, school and work tools, and displayed them for the first time in the council chamber of the town hall. On 27 May 1995 the Heimatstube opened as a permanent institution on Walter-Rathenau-Straße; after just one year it comprised around 600 items.
In 2004 it moved to the upper floor of a leisure centre. After the Heimatstube in Weißandt-Gölzau closed in 2005, its mining and local history items remained inaccessible for a long time. Since the reopening on 8 September 2013 in Radegast town hall, both collections can be seen together.
On the upper floor, the tour leads through the parlour (Gute Stube), kitchen, bedroom, children's room, sewing room and laundry room. In the foyer a miner figure recalls mining in Weißandt-Gölzau, and in the stairwell the narrow-gauge railway junction of Radegast; agricultural and craft tools stand in the courtyard.
