About the museum
The Historische Sammlung der Ruhrwasserwirtschaft is an institution of the Ruhrverband and is located in the Essen district of Rellinghausen directly next to a former wastewater treatment plant. The building dates from the early 20th century and originally served Stadtwerke Essen as a gas receiving station.
From 1996 the Ruhrverband restored the building and largely preserved the historic fabric. Today the upper floor houses a seminar room and a historical library, while on the lower floor contemporary exhibits and documents show how water management on the Ruhr has developed.
