About the museum

The towed barge of the Groß-Finow size was launched in 1927 at the Pape shipyard in Oderberg under the name "La Paloma". At 41.50 metres long, 5.10 metres wide and with a load capacity of around 283 tonnes, it carried freight for decades on the waterways around Berlin and Brandenburg, at first for private skippers, later as a storage vessel for a Berlin cable works and for water management.

After 1990 the vessel passed into state ownership and was due to be scrapped. Instead, the badly rusted hull was lifted in 2000, set down on land in Brandenburg an der Havel and given makeshift repairs. In 2011 the Pritzerber Schifffahrtsverein 1776 e. V. was founded in Pritzerbe to preserve the village's long tradition of shipbuilding and navigation. It bought the barge, brought it to Havelsee and named it after the last ship built in Pritzerbe, which had been confiscated after the end of the war.

The association replaced the ship's bottom, fitted out cabins and created exhibition spaces in the uncovered cargo holds. On 17 May 2015 the "Ilse-Lucie" opened as a museum ship with an exhibition on the history of shipbuilding and shipping companies in Pritzerbe. The technical monument lies in the village's harbour and can be visited by arrangement.
