About the museum

The museum is located at the southern end of the Asklepios specialist clinic Brandenburg in Görden, in a building that once housed forensic psychiatric detention (Maßregelvollzug). After the ward moved out, the site became a place of remembrance. Since 2002 a collection exhibition has shown objects from everyday asylum life, including a straitjacket, medicine containers, clothing and the institution's own money, which was in circulation until the 1950s.

Since 2004 the museum has also shown the permanent exhibition "Die Landesanstalt Görden 1933 bis 1945 – Psychiatrie im Nationalsozialismus". It documents the crimes committed against patients and recalls that the Landesanstalt Görden was a transit station on the way to the killing centers. The museum is run by the specialist clinic, which regards coming to terms with the history of its site as an essential part of its self-understanding.

• Fundusausstellung zur Klinikgeschichte – Everyday objects such as a straitjacket, medicine containers and institutional money give insight into earlier living and working conditions at the clinic.
